THE SPACE
THE GYMATORIUM
O'FallonTheatreWorks IS LOCATED IN A 1920'S MULTIPURPOSE GYMNASIUM AT O'FALLON CITY HALL. TO CREATE AN IMMERSIVE EFFECT, THE SET WAS DESIGNED TO CARRY THE INSTITUTIONAL LOOK OF THE GYM ONTO THE STAGE, THEREBY GIVING THE AUDIENCE THE ILLUSION OF SITTING IN THE WARD WITH THE PATIENTS. SCULPTED STYROFOAM WAS USED TO MIMIC THE YELLOW CERAMIC BRICKS OF THE GYM ON STAGE AND CONDUIT WAS MADE TO STAND IN AS PIPES. SIGNS WERE PLACED AROUND THE GYM TO BRING THE MENTAL HOSPITAL INTO THE HOUSE. 
NURSE'S STATION
CONTROL PANEL
STYROFOAM WAS USED TO BUILD AN ILLUMINATED COMMAND CENTER FOR THE NURSE'S STATION. ON IT, A STYROFOAM TAPE RECORDER WAS BUILT WITH MOVING PARTS AND A WORKING SWITCH. 
THE COMBINE
ONE OF THE CENTRAL CHARACTERS IN THE PLAY VIEWS THE WORLD AS IF ITS BEING CONTROLLED BY A LARGE MACHINE CALLED THE COMBINE. WHENEVER HE IS BEING MANIPULATED BY THE COMBINE, THE CONTROL PANEL AND MONITORS LIGHT UP IN A SUREAL SEQUENCE OF COLORS AND FLASHES.
SECURITY MONITORS
THE SECURITY MONITORS WERE MADE FROM STYROFOAM AND PLASTIC. PHOTOS OF THE WARD WERE BACKLIT TO RESEMBLE SECURITY FOOTAGE. THE TV FRAMES WERE PLASTIC AND NEEDED TO BE PAINTED AND TEXTURED TO LOOK LIKE METAL.
STATION CONTROLS
THE PANEL HAD REAL WORKING BUTTONS, LEVERS, AND TOGGLES. 
AGING THE WARD
RUST, DIRT, AND GRIME WERE ADDED TO AGE THE SET.
SLIDING WINDOWS
THE NURSE'S STATION HAD SLIDING PLEXIGLASS WINDOWS.
THE DAY ROOM
SALVAGED DOORS
VINTAGE WOOD DOORS WERE RESCUED FOR THE PROJECT AND FRAMED OUT WITH STYROFOAM. THE TRANSOM WINDOWS WERE CREATED WITH WOOD AND ACRYLIC LIGHTING PANELS.
THE TRANSFORMER
IN HIS BATTLE AGAINST THE COMBINE, CHEIF BROMDEN LIFTS THE WARD TRANSFORMER. TO CREATE THE BREAKING EFFECT, THE TRANSFORMER WAS FILLED WITH TANGLED WIRES. BOLTS WOULD FLY OFF AND LIGHTS WOULD FLASH FROM THE INSIDE AS HE RIPPED IT FROM IT'S BASE.
WINDOWS
TO AVOID GLARE AND MATCH THE REST OF THE WARD'S DUSTY RUN DOWN FEEL, THE WINDOWS WERE PAINTED TO LOOK UNWASHED. CHICKEN FENCING WAS APPLIED TO THE BACK OF PLASTIC SHEETING TO RESEMBLE WINDOW GRATES. STYROFOAM AND WOOD WERE USED TO FRAME OUT THE WINDOWS. ARTIFICIAL PLANTS AND LIGHTING WERE EMPLOYED TO FINISH OUT THE EFFECT.
FURNITURE
TELEVISION
A COMPUTER MONITOR WAS PLACED IN THE SHELL OF A VINTAGE TELEVISION IN ORDER TO PLAY REAL FOOTAGE FROM THE 1962 World Series.

SCENIC PAINTING
WEATHERING
THE WARD IS IN DETERIORATING SHAPE. THE WALLS WERE WEATHERED TO LOOK LIKE PLASTER AND APPEAR STAINED, WORN, AND COVERED IN "FINGER MARKS AND SMOOCHES."
SHOCK THERAPY
SHOCKING TRANSFORMATION
FOR A LOW BUDGET TRANSFORMATION, CLOTHES RACKS AND OLD SHEETS WERE USED AS HOSPITAL SCREENS.
